#TBT - Throwback Thursday - Old Toys

This week is another twofer. They kind of, sort of, in a roundabout way go together. The first toy is a monkey that belongs to my husband. It belonged to his great grandma. We don't know where she got it from, but when he was little it hung on her wall by a string that had been tied to his arms. I can't say how old it is. His Great Grandma had the monkey when HIS mom was a kid! So at this point I would guess it is around 50 years old. She wouldn't let any of the other kids/grandkids touch it....except him! She never told anyone her reason for that. A perplexing mystery. One day she gave it to him. He was around 6 - 8 years old and within the vicinity of that time she moved out of her trailer and into her daughter's home. I'm not sure what years she died, but when I met him (more than 27 years ago!) he still had this monkey hanging on the wall in his room. Some years later, I removed the string because it was causing excessive wear on the arms. We have managed to keep it safe all these years. It is deteriorating some, but he has been well loved and much played with!

This is my monkey. Before coming to me, his history is a mystery. We found him at our local flea market many years ago. Since I like clowns, I was drawn to this little fella and we had not seen any of these that resembled his monkey so my husband bought him for me. I think he was marked $60 or $65 and I think we bought him for around $40. We have had him for about 20 years. Like the little monkey, he doesn't have any tags or marking to give any indication of his real age other than he's OLD. :)
