Once Upon A Time When I Learned About Thread Count

I know pillowcases might not be an Earth shattering topic, but if you have ever slept on cheap bedding, you know that every once in awhile, you do have to stop and consider what you're sleeping on.

I'll tell you a little fairy tale..... Once upon a time there was a young married couple. They owned a business and worked all the time. Everything they had, had been given or passed down to them. One thing they had a shortage of was bedding. So one day the fair maiden spotted some neat looking blue and white striped bedding in a little bargain store. It was all wrapped up and it looked pretty so she bought it. Thread count? What was that? Oh well. They looked nice! The maiden took the bedding home and washed it, dried and proudly made up the bed with the bright new sheets and pillowcases. The maiden noticed they felt a little stiff, but thought they would surely soften after being washed a few more times. The couple slept on their bed night after night. The bedding was washed over and over. The fair prince never said anything and the fair maiden got kind of used to the stiff sheets...
One evening as they were lying down the fair prince suddenly spoke up and said they needed to get some new sheets. The fair maiden reminded him the sheets upon which they lay WERE new. The fair prince said he wanted something that wasn't going to sandpaper his behind off every time he laid down! After much laughter and arguing about how rough the sheets were, the fair maiden agreed to get new bedding.

And THAT is how I learned what the heck thread count was! I think that bedding was like 100 thread count! And I learned that a bargain isn't always a bargain. I also learned my prince has more sensitive skin than I do. Although I have never tried to see if he could feel the pea under the mattress....

So the moral of the story is thread count does count and quality matters! The higher the thread count, the softer, more luxurious the fabric will feel. And these are so wonderfully soft!
