We always hear the phrase "Knowledge is power", but I wonder if people really stop to think about what that means. Knowledge is learning, but it is also understanding what is learned. Without understanding, the knowledge loses it's purpose.
I have always loved learning. I read voraciously from the time I was really little. I absorbed words like a tree's roots take up water. I would read anything I could get my hands on. I read about different cultures of the word, ancient customs and rituals. I poured over the Guiness Book of World Record. I was fascinated by things that were so different than what I knew. I immersed myself in the books of Beverly Cleary, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Judy Blume and others. These were closer to home and I could relate to the adventures of the characters in the stories. I learned that I could find out and learn about almost anything I chose to through books.
The internet has opened a massive protal to knowledge. We literally have more knowledge available to us than could possibly be learned in our lifetime. Isn't that incredible? With just a few clicks you can explore the country, the world, the moon, the stars, the galaxy.... You can even learn new things for your everyday living. You can learn a new craft, get inspiration, learn how to cook something new, or even learn how to do something in a different way than you already know.
I am always incredibly excited to gain new knowledge and I have learned that even with all the electronic advancements we have made, we can still learn a lot from the people around us. Just talking to others, listening to what they say and learning from them gives us a knowledge that is both fascinating and in a way tangible. I never intend to stop learning and gaining knowledge. I can't see that there would be any purpose without knowledge.
