I love being able to stick a cup under my Keurig and fix a drink in a matter of seconds.
I actually don't do a lot of coffee in mine, but I love doing the Brew Over Ice type drinks and especially hot cocoa and hot chocolate.
This can be an alternative for those trying to use more natural products and avoid the artificial chemicals that are used in many products.
While it's not yet possible to totally avoid artificial ingredients in this world since they are added to nearly everything we buy, I read labels and try to avoid the biggies: aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, sucralose, and artificial colors.
Black Bear Market Hot Chocolate doesn't contain any of these! Their hot chocolate is made with pure cane sugar, non-fat dry milk, cocoa, whey, natural flavor, salt, locust bean gum and stevia.
Now before you panic, locust bean gum does not come from locusts! It’s a vegetable gum extracted from the seeds of the carob tree, which is found mostly in the Mediterranean region.
Stevia is a natural sweetener that is used as a sugar substitute. It is extracted from the leaves of the Stevia plant.
I have to be honest. While I like that this doesn't have all those other harmful, artificial things, I personally don't care for the stevia either. I know many people like it and can ingest it without any problem, but I am sensitive to it and can taste it. Adding the natural whipped cream helps minimize that for me. The big picture is that this product is made with natural ingredients and allows you to enjoy hot chocolate without worrying about chemical sweeteners and that is a good thing!
These are K-Cup compatible, except for the Keurig 2.0 Brewers. However, if you notice in my photo, I have a Keurig Vue. Also not directly compatible. But I have an adapter that allows me to use K-Cups in my brewer. Another tip I can give you is that for beverages like this that do not have the paper filter inside the plastic cup, you can simply pull the cover off and pour the chocolate directly into your mug and then use the brewer to add the amount of hot water you want. The directions call for 8 ounces but I sometimes do 6 ounces for a richer flavor.
You can also enjoy Iced Hot Chocolate by brewing it into a 12 ounce, ice-filled tumbler.
