Liztek USB 3.0 SuperSpeed SATA III Vertical Hard Drive Review

#VerticalHardDrive

I received this Liztek USB 3.0 SuperSpeed SATA III Vertical Hard Drive Docking Station to review. While I am on my computer everyday, my husband is THE computer guy. He is a genius with all the technical stuff. He can recover information that others won't dare touch. So I of course gave him this device to see what he thought of it. Here's what he had to say:
Dock Not Connected

Dock Connected

This unit is easy to setup. Windows will auto install the drivers just as any other external USB hard drive or USB flash drive. Over the past few years, I have used several different brands of USB to hard drive adapter cables for data and forensic recovery on hard drives. The big difference for me between these cabled adapters and the Liztek 3.0 SATA III Vertical Hard Drive docking station is the stability of the hard drive being inserted into the cradle of this dock instead of it laying loose on the work bench and the fact the once the USB unit is detected on the computer it is assign a drive letter immediately to the driver without having to have a drive in the dock. All of the other adapters that I have identifies the hard drive controller, but does not give a drive letter until the hard drive is detected. This difference helps while doing a directory or copy of just a few files from a failing hard drive and the Drive stalls outs letting the letter disappear. This generally freezes windows while it is trying to find the drive that has just crashed, but since the dock seems to hold the drive letter itself, the computer seems to just pause while allowing the drive to come back while allowing you to copy the small directories or files. This keeps me from having to do raw recoveries for small amounts of data, which saves time….As far as for general use as a hard drive dock, it seems to be a good stable piece of equipment. This unit is just for SATA interface drives though, so I am still using my other adapter for IDE, etc…..but, since 85% of my Data Recoveries and Data Transfers are from SATA drives now, I would like to have about two more of these docks in the work room.
