Hope - Day 8 of the #WordADayChallenge

Today's word is Hope.

This is one of my favorite words. It is full of so much promise and optimism. Without hope, there really isn't a lot to look forward to. 


In the darkest days, in the stormiest moments, when fear threatens to leave us undone, there is hope. Shining like a small beacon, signaling that things will settle down that good things await, if we are just a little patient. 

One of my favorite poems comes from Emily Dickinson:

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

Hope resides in all of us. We just have to give it the chance to light the darkened path. One of my favorite movies is Hope Floats. 

"Beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning. Just give hope a chance to float up. And it will, too..."

I love that! Just give hope a chance to float up, let it rise to the top. Stop looking down and look up, for hope can be found all around. It can be found in many forms if we just pay attention. It may be family, an old friend or the stranger on the street. When all seems lost, hope is peeking through somewhere. Hope can lead us when we are afraid to move. Like the sun rising over the landscape, hope is there, too. Time and patience reveal that the darkened sky can be brightened by a single ray of hope. We just have to stop squeezing our eyes closed so tightly we can't see. Hope helps keep fear from winning.
