I have had the worst luck with knife sharpeners! I got one that was advertised on TV. It was supposed to stick to the counter with a suction cup..... the first time I tried to use it, the suction cup broke off. Without the suction cup, there was not a good way to hold it while sharpening and it moved all over the place. I had another that was so difficult to keep the blades at the correct angle, that the blades seemed more blunt than before I tried to sharpen them.
I had almost given up on finding a decent one when I received the Priority Chef Knife Sharpener. And now I am so happy! This sharpener is straight forward, easy to use and does a great job.
The handle makes it easy to hold in place while you sharpen. There are two slots. They are labeled "course" and "fine". The fine slot is for blades that are slightly dull and need a little maintenance to take away some rough points and be made sharp again. The course slot is for blades that are completely dull. This one isn't for serrated blades. Or scissors. Or many other household items. But it IS for straight blade knives. And it does a great job!
I have now used this to sharpen our kitchen knives that I had pretty much given up on every being able to use again. When I got them they were high end, but after years of use and and failed sharpeners, they were nearly useless.
One of them was damaged with ripples all the way down the blade! SOMEONE has been known to use my kitchen knives on things like computers and cars!
After several passes through the course slot, there was marked improvement. It didn't completely fix it, but this was extreme damage. With the exception of the biggest kink near the tip, it did smooth the blade so that it is now usable again.
Caring for the sharpener after use is super easy. You simply wipe the sharpening crosses with a sponge or pull a soft cloth through the crosses in similar movements used when sharpening a knife. Easy peasy!!
With this sharpener, my unlucky streak has finally been broken! It is easy to use and works great. I like that this is a Priority Chef product, too. I have a couple other kitchen tools from them and they are tough and durable. Their products are quality made and I have loved using them.
